"I only agree to invest if the startup and its founders check all the boxes,"
"focuses on specific areas where we have built profound network and expertise."
Mario Götze runs Companion M, an investment vehicle with a portfolio of more than 70 companies. Two portfolio companies became unicorns in 2025: Danish fintech Flatpay and German AI startup Parloa. Companion M typically invests at pre-seed and seed stages with ticket sizes between €25,000 and €50,000 ($29,000–$58,000). Focus areas include B2B SaaS, software infrastructure, cybersecurity, health, and biotech. Götze applies subjective vetting criteria and invests only when startups and founders meet those standards. Götze invested in cannabis startup Sanity Group in 2020; the company claimed about 10% of the German medical cannabis market in 2024. Götze continues to play professionally for Eintracht Frankfurt while building his investor profile.
