Galatasaray require a positive result to avoid the Champions League knockout play-offs and present a difficult opponent for Manchester City. Four recent meetings between English clubs and Galatasaray have left the Turkish side unbeaten, with the last English victory in Istanbul in December 2014. Galatasaray finished above Manchester United in 2023 after a 3-2 win and followed with a chaotic 3-3 draw at home. The club also beat Liverpool 1-0 this campaign and handed Tottenham their only Europa League group-phase defeat last season. Assistant manager Ismael Garcia Gomez says the Turkish league and Galatasaray play in a style close to the Premier League, and that the club feel comfortable against open, dynamic English teams, while Turkish stadium atmospheres remain exceptional.
