Aston Villa held on to a 1-0 lead to beat Fenerbahce in Istanbul and secure a place in the Europa League last 16 with a game to spare. Youri Tielemans was substituted in the 92nd minute and reached to shake manager Unai Emery's hand, at which point Emery pushed Tielemans in the chest on the touchline. Emery described Tielemans as "He's my son." Former Villa defender Joleon Lescott expressed discomfort with the gesture and questioned how perceptions would change if roles were reversed. Jadon Sancho scored his first goal for the club in the victory. Emery is managing his 100th game in the competition and aims for a fifth Europa League title.
