"We're thrilled to be one of 16 host cities playing our part and we can't wait to make the city of Toronto proud and showcase all that in front of a global broadcast audience of literally several billion people,"
"It's been a bit of a journey in partnership between the city and Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment to really be ready to host what will be the largest global sporting event ever,"
"We're really proud of that. It's one of the big legacy investments as part of the infrastructure project and, obviously meeting FIFA requirements,"
Toronto's BMO Field is undergoing substantial renovations and upgrades to meet FIFA 2026 tournament standards. The city and Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment are expanding the venue and adding permanent features to satisfy FIFA requirements. Toronto was awarded five first-round games and one playoff match, including the opener for the Canada men's national team, for the World Cup that kicks off June 12, 2026. Phase one is complete and includes luxury suites, an upgraded video production control room, a new kitchen, and four new video boards approximately 9 by 15 metres with over five million pixels. Additional work continues to prepare the stadium for global broadcast audiences.
