"There seems to be more and more football every year. New competitions seem to be invented, more games are squeezed out of existing competitions and even the Bundesliga's winter break has been reduced over the years. But it still exists and gives footballers in Germany a chance to spend Christmas with their family, standing at a stark contrast to the Premier League that simply loves the tradition of playing games on Boxing Day."
"The winter break is great for mental recovery. We've had a lot of games and we've very successful, so it's great to take a breather and recharge,"
"I had a great time with my family and played some golf. You don't get that in the Premier League; you play straight through, so this is a nice thing."
Football schedules are expanding with new competitions and extra matches, and the Bundesliga's winter break has been shortened but still remains. The winter break allows German-based players to spend Christmas with family, a sharp contrast to the Premier League's Boxing Day fixture tradition. Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane, who has experience in both leagues, values the break for mental recovery after a heavy run of games. Kane reported using the break to recharge, spend time with family and play golf, benefits he says are unavailable in the uninterrupted Premier League calendar.
