"Hamilton were relegated last season after receiving a 15-point penalty for a number of transgressions, including issues over the ownership of their stadium and player registration. They left their hometown ground and moved to Broadwood Stadium, 15 miles away in Cumbernauld, this summer and were then issued a six-point penalty in October after paying trialists and fielding amateur players while under a transfer embargo."
"The latest penalty means they drop below Montrose to eighth place, just three points clear of second-bottom Cove Rangers. The SPFL says Hamilton were "given multiple extensions to this date to comply" with the requirement to acquire a bronze licence. "The club admitted breaching these rules following the award by the Scottish FA of an entry-level licence due to the club's accounts being unaudited," the league stated."
Hamilton Academical were penalised a further nine points after failing to secure a bronze-level Scottish FA club licence by the 31 March deadline. The club had already been hit with a 15-point deduction last season for breaches including stadium ownership and player registration and were relegated. They moved to Broadwood Stadium this summer and received an additional six-point penalty in October for paying trialists and fielding amateur players while under a transfer embargo. The new deduction drops the club to eighth in League 1, with the SPFL saying multiple extensions were granted to comply. The club admitted breaching rules after being awarded an entry-level licence because its accounts were unaudited. The SFA ruled two senior figures not fit and proper, prompting legal challenge and a board change involving Jonny Towers.
