From public park to World Cup dream - Bowie's rise to fame
"Until I was 16, I was just playing with my mates and stuff - and then Fife League was a thing at the time,"
"I was only there for a few months and then John McGlynn and [assistant] Paul Smith went in at Raith and it sort of caught their eye a little bit."
"a raw 16-year-old"
"I'd done that for the rest of the season and then, in the summer, I was like, am I going to play? Because there was no reserves or anything - and then that season I played and done alright."
Kieron Bowie will face Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Cup fourth round at East End Park on Saturday 17 January, with coverage on BBC One Scotland and iPlayer and live text on the BBC Sport website and app. Bowie began playing public park football in Kirkcaldy and joined the Fife League before being recruited by Raith Rovers at 16 after John McGlynn and assistant Paul Smith noticed him. Bowie describes himself as a raw 16-year-old who trained twice weekly from school, then earned a place in the team despite no reserve setup. He later played for Real Fife and Glenrothes Strollers and has earned Scotland caps.
