Former Arsenal striker in induced coma with brain injury after colliding with concrete wall
"Billy received a significant brain injury and is currently in an induced coma in intensive care receiving the best possible treatment. It is too early to say what the outcome will be and even if things go well, there will be a long road to recovery ahead. Love from the whole of the CCFC family Billy."
"My heart breaks reading this terrible news, Sending all the love, strength and best wishes to the Vigar family for healing in time. You've got this Billy."
A 21-year-old Chichester City striker sustained a significant brain injury after a collision while trying to prevent the ball crossing the touchline during a match against Wingate and Finchley. Medical teams, including an ambulance and an air ambulance, attended the scene and the match was abandoned after 13 minutes. The player is in an induced coma in intensive care and is receiving intensive treatment, with an uncertain outcome and a likely long recovery. The Professional Footballers' Association previously called for a full review of safety around advertising boards after a similar injury. The player is a Hale End academy graduate who played for Arsenal under-18s and under-21s and joined Chichester after spells with Hastings and Eastbourne Borough.
