"It doesn't matter, for me, that he's doing this in a Chelsea shirt, and I'm an ex-Arsenal player. When he was younger he was playing for Watford and doing really well there, and then one day he told me that Chelsea wanted to sign him. I said it was completely up to him what he wanted to do, and like I said I'm just really happy with how things are going for him."
Emmanuel Eboue supports his son Mathis and is proud of his progress within Chelsea's academy. Mathis moved from Watford to Chelsea and is approaching 17 years old. Eboue believes Chelsea's willingness to promote academy players offers Mathis a strong chance of first-team opportunities soon. Eboue is unconcerned about Mathis representing Arsenal's rival club and considers the Chelsea environment beneficial for gaining senior football experience. He expects the club to look to use him when he turns 17 and believes staying at Chelsea will help his development and chances of senior appearances next season.
