Mauricio Pochettino sent emails to soccer players worldwide to indicate whether they were selected for Team USA at the summer Geopolitics World Cup. Some criticism followed because players who were not chosen did not receive a personal phone call explaining the decision. Pochettino defended the approach by saying that, as a player, he would not have wanted to talk with a manager who had just cut him from an international squad. He said he cares about the players left out and described sleeplessness during the two weeks leading to the announcement. Several notable players searched their inboxes for any lost call-up, including Diego Luna and Tanner Tessmann, while Aidan Morris was omitted and hoped for a late reprieve.
