"Despite the prestige of hosting the final, plus the potential financial boost for the local economy of the chosen city, UEFA announced last week that only Munich has submitted a bid to host the 2028 final, while only London and Barcelona have entered the race for the rights to hold the 2029 final. - Why was LaLiga's Barcelona-Villarreal game in Miami canceled? -Ranking the Champions League field: Arsenal's title to lose?- UCL talking points: Flawless Bayern, Slot's switch, VdV's worldie"
UEFA faces a practical hosting problem as only Munich has bid for the 2028 Champions League final and only London and Barcelona have entered for 2029. CONMEBOL has held talks about staging the Copa Libertadores outside South America to capture commercial opportunities. Barcelona's Camp Nou has not hosted a final since 1999 but has been extensively renovated and will reopen. Munich's Allianz Arena and London's Wembley have recently staged finals. Milan lost 2027 hosting rights because the San Siro was judged unfit; Inter and AC Milan plan to demolish and rebuild a 71,500-capacity arena. Atlético Madrid's Estadio Metropolitano was announced as a new host, having hosted in 2019.
