Federico Chiesa provided two assists in his first start of the season as Liverpool beat Southampton 2-1 in the Carabao Cup third round. Chiesa has influenced four Premier League matches as a substitute and reports improved physical and mental form compared with his first campaign at Anfield. He started one Premier League game last season and was omitted from Liverpool's 22-man Champions League squad, but could be added if Giovanni Leoni is sidelined for 60 days or more under UEFA rules. Chiesa says he will focus on performances in the Carabao Cup and Premier League to force his way into the manager's plans and repay supporter loyalty.
