""We have to continue, we have to think about what we can do better, but he's a fantastic coach and also has a great future," "This is football, and it's not my business, but what I can say is that I have a very good relationship with Xabi," "I met him at Leverkusen, when I was the [German] national coach, I always stayed in contact with him. He's a fantastic coach.""
Xabi Alonso was dismissed by Real Madrid after seven months in charge following the Supercopa de Espana final defeat to Barcelona. Alvaro Arbeloa replaced Alonso and will make his first appearance in charge in the Copa del Rey against Albacete, becoming the second recent Madrid manager to debut in the competition since Santiago Solari in 2018. Alonso recorded 34 games at Madrid with 24 wins, four draws and six losses, a 70.6% win rate, the fifth-best among permanent Madrid coaches. Alonso previously led Bayer Leverkusen to an unbeaten domestic season with Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal titles in 2023-24. Hansi Flick described Alonso as a fantastic coach with a great future and said he maintains a good relationship with him.
