Atlanta will host the National Women's Soccer League's 17th franchise, owned by Arthur Blank's AMB Sports and Entertainment, with play beginning in 2028 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. AMBSE will build a first-class training ground and assemble a dedicated leadership staff to run club operations. The market offers a passionate fan base and deep sports culture that align with league growth goals. Boston Legacy FC and Denver will join the NWSL in 2026 as the 15th and 16th teams. League leadership envisions eventual expansion toward a 32-team model. Atlanta's market had been considered for NWSL expansion for nearly a decade.
