"'family comes first.'"
Curacao will become the smallest nation ever to appear at a FIFA World Cup, facing Germany in their Group E opener on June 14. The Caribbean island qualified for the expanded 48-team competition unbeaten in Concacaf qualifying, winning seven matches and drawing three. Curacao topped their final stage group ahead of Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Bermuda under manager Dick Advocaat. Advocaat, who recently turned 78, has stepped down for personal reasons, saying family comes first. Advocaat previously managed the Netherlands at the 1994 World Cup and South Korea at the 2006 edition, and enjoyed club success with Rangers and Zenit St. Petersburg.
