Eritrea withdrew from the 2023 preliminary qualifiers, were excluded from the 2025 draw, and pulled out of 2026 World Cup qualifying a week before a scheduled match with Morocco. The preliminary draw was held in Rabat a day before the 2025 Afcon semi-finals. Ethiopia will face Sao Tome e Principe and Burundi will play Chad.
