Eritrea advance after 19-year absence from Afcon qualifying
"Eritrea's national football team, known as the Red Sea Camels, has made a significant return to the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying stage after a long absence of 19 years, showcasing their potential with a strong performance against Eswatini."
"Ali Sulieman emerged as a standout player, scoring three crucial goals across the two legs of the preliminary round, demonstrating his importance to the team's success in this qualifying campaign."
"The team faced logistical challenges, having to play their home match in Morocco due to the lack of an approved stadium for international football, yet they managed to secure a vital 2-0 victory."
Eritrea has reached the main group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying for the first time in 19 years. They achieved this by defeating Eswatini 4-1 on aggregate. Forward Ali Sulieman scored three goals in the two legs. Due to a lack of an approved stadium, Eritrea played their home match in Morocco, winning 2-0. They followed this with a 2-1 victory in Eswatini. Eritrea has not qualified for Afcon since gaining independence in 1993 and has faced challenges in participating in qualifiers.
