Eintracht legend tells Liverpool what to expect from Hugo Ekitike
"When Hugo Ekitike joined Eintracht Frankfurt on loan from Paris Saint-Germain 18 months ago, he had a difficult start he didn't score in his opening 11 games, but you could see there was potential, Falkenmayer tells FourFourTwo. He came to life at the end of that campaign, scoring four goals in his final five games, and I was pleased to see that the deal was made permanent for 14m last summer. I felt that he'd have a bigger role to play, but I don't think anybody foresaw just how much bigger."
"His movement, intelligence, speed and willingness to roll up his sleeves and get stuck in were very impressive. He and Omar Marmoush worked well as a duo because they pushed each other to go further. After Marmoush left the club, qualification for the Champions League was made much more difficult, but Ekitike rose to the occasion."
Hugo Ekitike moved to Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt as part of a major summer spending spree. The 23-year-old France international scored 22 goals in the Bundesliga season and produced around 34 goal contributions for Frankfurt. Paris Saint-Germain previously paid €35 million for him in 2023 before his loan to Frankfurt and a subsequent permanent move for €14 million. Ekitike struggled initially on loan, failing to score in his first 11 matches, then finished that campaign strongly with four goals in five games. Key attributes cited include movement, intelligence, speed, work ethic, and an effective partnership with Omar Marmoush.
