"We're signing a striker who has played at the highest level in his career. Our team will benefit from Edin's experience as a leader as well as his qualities as a target man and goal-scorer,"
"It's very impressive how the team has developed this season after some difficult years,"
Edin Dzeko has returned to Germany after signing with second-division Schalke from Fiorentina. He will wear No. 10 and is contracted for the remaining 16 games of the season. Dzeko aims to increase playing time to bolster his chances of helping Bosnia and Herzegovina in World Cup playoffs that begin against Wales and could include the Italy–Northern Ireland winner. Dzeko is Bosnia's record goal-scorer with 72 goals in 146 appearances. Schalke leads the 2. Bundesliga by four points and has built success on a strong defensive record. Dzeko previously won league titles with Wolfsburg, Manchester City, and Inter Milan.
