"I think the next step for Leicester has to be the right step for them because you can't go from winning the Premier League to being in League One in a matter of a few seasons, that is very, very poor management."
"For me it was more of a generic thing that when you see the team and, I'm sure everyone would potentially agree here, when you see a team winning the Premier League and where we are right now at this moment, of course without connecting the dots you say, how has that happened? It was more a generic comment rather than about individuals really."
Gary Rowett, Leicester City's new manager, addressed his previous criticism of the club made while working as a Sky Sports pundit in February. Before his appointment eleven days later, Rowett had blamed "very, very poor management" for Leicester's decline from Premier League champions in 2016 to near-relegation to League One. When questioned about these comments after taking the job, Rowett characterized them as generic observations about how any team could fall from such heights, rather than directed at specific individuals. He stated he had not needed to clarify the remarks with the club's hierarchy and believed people would understand his intent. Despite his appointment, Leicester remained in the relegation zone following back-to-back away draws in his first two matches.
