Denounce 'abject' Afcon decision - senior Caf member
"In a situation like this, we have to fight against injustice. Football is fair play, football is played on the field, not in offices. What happened with Caf was unacceptable. When you see a committee taking such a decision in violation of our rules, in violation of the Fifa laws of the game, to take the trophy and give it to Morocco, I think it is something very abject."
"The FRMF said in a statement that the Caf verdict upholds respect for rules that are necessary for the proper functioning of international competition. It added: This decision helps to clarify the framework applicable to similar situations in the future and contributes to the consistency and credibility of international competitions, particularly African football."
Senegal defeated Morocco 1-0 in the January 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, but Caf reversed the result following Morocco's appeal. Senegal's players protested and briefly left the pitch after Morocco was awarded a stoppage-time penalty, which was subsequently saved. After a 17-minute delay, play resumed and Senegal won in extra time. Caf ruled that Senegal forfeited the match by walking off, recording a 3-0 victory for Morocco. Augustin Senghor, a Caf executive committee member, condemned the decision as abject and a violation of football rules and Fifa laws. Morocco's federation defended the ruling as upholding necessary competition standards. Senghor contends the decision resulted from pressure by Morocco's football association.
