Grupo Pachuca announced that Club León will not participate in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup following a ruling by FIFA's appeals committee due to regulations against multi-ownership. Both Club León and Pachuca had qualified by winning separate Concacaf Champions Cups. FIFA cited article 10, which prohibits ownership overlap, for the decision. Grupo Pachuca expressed intentions to appeal, asserting their compliance with competition rules and emphasizing their sporting independence. The identity of the replacement club for León remains uncertain, with Liga Deportiva Alajuelense challenging the ruling.
In line with article 10 paragraph four of the regulations for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, FIFA has determined That Club León will be removed from the competition, with the club to be admitted as a replacement to be announced in due course.
We do not agree with this decision, which we will apply until the last instances with the highest sport authorities, since all the proof and documentation shows our administrative and sporting independence were presented with full opportunity and transparency.
No person or legal entity may control or exert influence over more than one club participating in the competition, reads article 10 of FIFA's 2025 Club World Cup ownership rules.
A few moments ago we were notified by FIFA that one of the two teams: Pachuca and León, will be excluded from the FIFA Club World Cup. The reasonings behind this decision haven't been explained to us.
