Philippe Coutinho has permanently joined Vasco da Gama from Aston Villa, signing a one-year contract. This follows a loan spell at his boyhood club last season. The 33-year-old midfielder had not played for Villa during the 2023-24 season and was loaned to Qatari side Al-Duhail. Although Coutinho had a successful career with clubs like Liverpool and Barcelona, his tenure with Barcelona was marred by injuries. He has scored 21 goals for Brazil but has not featured since 2022.

The attacking midfielder had previously been signed by Aston Villa permanently from Barcelona for 17m, after a loan period from the Spanish club.
Coutinho cost Barcelona a record 142m from Liverpool but faced challenges during his four-year tenure at Nou Camp, including a significant knee injury.
