CONMEBOL pitches 64-team 2030 WC to Infantino
"We believe in a historic 2030 World Cup! Thank you, President Gianni Infantino, for welcoming us and sharing this journey toward the centennial of football's greatest celebration. We want to call for unity, creativity, and believing big. Because when football is shared by everyone, the celebration is truly global."
"I had the honor of being part of the FIFA summit, organized by Gianni Infantino, with the goal of starting to organize what will be the 2030 World Cup. It was truly a pleasure to have represented our country at this important meeting. We are family and we have done our part to request this meeting so our dream can become reality."
Gianni Infantino met in New York with CONMEBOL president Alejandro Domínguez and the presidents of Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay to advance a proposal to expand the 2030 men's World Cup to 64 teams. CONMEBOL first introduced the expansion concept in March via a Uruguayan delegate during an online FIFA council meeting. The meeting marked the first direct presentation of the CONMEBOL plan to FIFA leadership. The 2026 World Cup will expand to 48 teams, and the 2030 edition will involve six host nations across three continents, with Uruguay scheduled to stage one game and co-hosts including Paraguay, Argentina, Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
