Besiktas were eliminated from European competition after a 1-0 home defeat to Swiss side Lausanne in a Conference League qualifier. Nathan Butler-Oyedeji scored the only goal in first-half added time, his first since moving abroad. Besiktas played the second half with 10 men after defender Felix Uduokhai was sent off in the 46th minute for a foul on Brandon Soppy. The club held an emergency board meeting and terminated Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's contract; president Serdal Adali expressed gratitude for his services. Solskjaer had been hired in January and had lifted Besiktas from sixth to fourth, securing a fourth-place finish the previous season.

Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked by Turkish club Besiktas after they crashed out of the Conference League. Solskjaer, the former Manchester United, Cardiff City and Molde boss was hired in January of this year and lifted Besiktas from sixth to fourth place in the Super Lig. His team had won their only league game so far this season.
