James Bree, 27, has joined Charlton Athletic on loan from Championship rivals Southampton until January. Bree made 17 Premier League appearances for Southampton last season. He began his career at Barnsley, joined Aston Villa in 2017, and moved to Luton in 2020 after loan spells including Ipswich and the Hatters. Bree played 142 times for Luton before a £750,000 move to Southampton in January 2023. He reunites with manager Nathan Jones, who has expressed strong faith in Bree and called the signing a coup that adds quality, athleticism and pedigree to Charlton's squad. Charlton view the loan as the final piece of a productive transfer window.
I signed him at Luton and he did wonderfully, and I bought him at Southampton to play in the Premier League. He's someone I have real faith in,
It's a real coup to get a player of his quality, athleticism and pedigree. The signing of James finishes off a wonderful window where we have added real quality to the squad.
