Celtic adjourn AGM amid 'sack the board' chants
"Chairman Peter Lawwell adjourned Celtic's annual general meeting inside five minutes following chants of "sack the board" by some shareholders. Directors were met with boos while dozens of enlarged red cards were held up as they entered the Kerrydale Suite at Celtic Park. Cries of "out, out, out" followed before there were cheers for interim manager Martin O'Neill when he was introduced by Lawwell."
"As a season review video began to play on big screens, Celtic Trust vice-chair Jeanette Findlay approached the top table to ask that the meeting move immediately to questions. Amid more shouts and chants of "sack the board", Lawwell said: "This disruptive behaviour is not on. It's got to stop. We have to have respect for everyone else in the room." Amid shouts of "you respect us", Lawwell called a 30-minute adjournment before the meeting resumed shortly after 11:00 GMT."
Shareholders at Celtic's AGM chanted "sack the board", booed directors and held up enlarged red cards, prompting SNS Chairman Peter Lawwell to suspend the meeting within five minutes. Cries of "out, out, out" and cheers for interim manager Martin O'Neill punctuated the entry of the board. Celtic Trust vice-chair Jeanette Findlay demanded an immediate move to questions as a season review video began. Lawwell condemned the disruptive behaviour, called for respect, and adjourned for 30 minutes after further shouts. The board faces criticism over summer transfers and failure to reach the Champions League group stage. Principal shareholder Dermot Desmond was absent and other fans watched by video link.
