Kompany arrived with extensive documents detailing his plans and a large backroom staff. Schalke could not complete the signing because of financial constraints tied to that staff. Borussia Mönchengladbach and Hertha Berlin also attempted to sign Kompany that summer. Kompany later joined Bayern, where he has achieved major sporting success.
