Bayern Munich have been drawn away to Bundesliga returnees FC Köln in the DFB-Pokal second round, with the match set for either 28 or 29 October. The champions reached the second round after a 3-2 win over SV Wehen Wiesbaden. Bayern and Köln have met frequently in the league but never in the Pokal. Recent encounters include a 2-0 home win with Raphäel Guerreiro and Thomas Müller scoring, and a 1-0 away win in late 2023 by Harry Kane. A last-minute Jamal Musiala goal in May 2023 secured Bayern's eleventh consecutive league title. Borussia Dortmund drew Eintracht Frankfurt away; coach Niko Kovač previously won the Pokal with Frankfurt in 2018 and later with Bayern.
Bayern Munich have drawn Bundesliga returnees FC Köln in the DFB-Pokal second round. The match will be played on either the 28th or 29th of October. The record champions advanced to the second round after a shaky 3-2 victory against SV Wehen Wiesbaden, and have now been handed another away trip, this time further north of Germany. Although Bayern and Köln have faced each other numerous times, they have actually never met in the Pokal.
Bayern's last match against Köln was two seasons ago, before the Billy Goats got relegated from the Bundesliga. Raphäel Guerreiro and Thomas Müller scored in a 2-0 home win. The last away trip to Cologne was a few months beforehand in late 2023, when Bayern came home with a 1-0 win. Harry Kane scored the only goal of the match.
Perhaps the most memorable match against Köln was in May 2023, when a last minute goal from Jamal Musiala snatched the Meisterschale away from Borussia Dortmund and sealed Bayern's eleventh league title in a row. Speaking of Dortmund, they have been dealt the hardest draw in the second round - an away trip to high flying Eintracht Frankfurt, who also happens to be the old employers of their coach Niko Kovač.
