Neymar has not played for Brazil since October 2023 after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury against Uruguay. After recovering and returning to boyhood club Santos, he has not been selected in Ancelotti's two Brazil squads due to persistent injury concerns. Neymar has 128 international appearances, second only to Cafu, and is Brazil's record scorer with 79 goals. He has scored six goals and provided three assists for Santos. Ancelotti indicated that Neymar’s fitness will influence selection for the 2026 World Cup.
