Seattle opened the Leagues Cup with a 7-0 win at Cruz Azul and won all three group matches by an aggregate 11-2. The team followed that with a 4-0 MLS victory over LA Galaxy and have won four of their previous five games, suffering only one defeat in their last 11 fixtures since June 23rd. Seattle have won their last three Lumen Field matches by an aggregate 7-4. Puebla reached the knockout stage but then lost 7-0 to Tigres and 2-0 to Atletico San Luis, losing three of four and showing defensive frailties. Interim manager Martin Bravo faces pressure as Puebla have lost 10 of their last 11 away games.
Starting with the hosts, getting their Leagues Cup adventure underway on August 1st with a sensational 7-0 romp away at Cruz Azul, Seattle certainly laid down what was a heavyweight group stage marker. Winning all of their first three appearances by an aggregate score of 11-2, Brian Schmetzer's side have their sights set on mounting a genuine title charge this year.
Winning four of their previous five appearances across all competitions, the Sounders have also suffered just a single defeat from any of their last 11 matchups - a run that stems back to June 23rd. Pencilled in as a standout contender in midweek, it should also be highlighted that Seattle have won their previous three consecutive showdowns at Lumen Field by an aggregate score of 7-4.
As for the visitors, while Puebla might have sprung an upset earlier in the month as they clinched a Leagues Cup knockout stage ticket, Los Camoteros have come crashing back down to earth in a worrying fashion. Coming under a huge amount of scrutiny on August 9th as they slumped to a woeful 7-0 drumming at the hands of bitter foes Tigres, interim boss Martin Bravo has a real job on his hands here.
