Ballon d'Or gets better date for women nominees
Briefly

The 2025 Ballon d'Or ceremony is set for September 22 in Paris, a date approved by UEFA to prevent clashes with international women's matches. This adjustment allows women nominees to attend the prestigious event, addressing past criticisms when female players and coaches were often absent. UEFA's commitment to recognizing women's achievements extends to three new award categories: best young player, best goalkeeper, and top scorer. By scheduling the awards at a time devoid of international fixtures, UEFA aims to enhance the visibility and celebration of women's contributions to soccer.
This time, the ceremony does not clash with international match dates in women's soccer when players are on mandatory duty in camp with national teams.
We are proud to expand our recognition to include three new categories celebrating the achievements of female players.
I mean, it'd be like running an Oscars or a Golden Globes, without having any females present.
Sept. 22 is again a Monday in a free week for the Champions League, plus no qualifying games for the 2026 World Cup.
