Kai Trewin will complete a permanent move from Melbourne City to New York City FC, a fellow City Football Group club. The Canberra-born 24-year-old earned his full Australian debut in friendlies against Venezuela and Colombia last November and aims to strengthen his World Cup selection case. Melbourne City will receive more than a seven-figure AUD fee for the defender. Trewin played 19 starts across the A-League and Asian Champions League Elite this season and was a regular in the squad that won the 2024-25 A-League. New York finished fifth in the MLS Eastern Conference in 2025 and reached the conference finals.
