Arsenal moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League with a 2-0 win over Brentford. Mikel Arteta rotated the side, resting Jurrien Timber, Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze, while handing starts to Ben White and Noni Madueke. White crossed for Mikel Merino to head home, Merino's second goal in successive games and his ninth league goal of the calendar year. Bukayo Saka came off the bench to seal the win in injury time. Arsenal lost Cristhian Mosquera and saw Declan Rice forced off. Arteta praised squad performances but criticised the congested schedule and urged more rest for heavily involved teams in Europe. Arsenal travel to face Aston Villa next.
