Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta explains why he was so 'animated' by VAR decision - that he admits 'wasn't a penalty'
"Regarding the penalty, I was getting a bit animated because, obviously, if it's clear and obvious, or not, that's why he has to intervene, Arteta explained. I was taking so long, and then Anthony [Taylor] asked why it was taking so long. Then he explained the reason why it took so long: the screen wasn't working."
"Eventually, the North Londoners found the breakthrough via traditional means: a corner from Bukayo Saka was touched on by Gabriel for Leandro Trossard to touch into the net with his thigh at the back post."
"I think what I have [to say], is that probably it wasn't a penalty, so probably they made the right decision, Arteta said."
Arsenal eked out a 1-0 victory at Craven Cottage after a tense encounter in which Fulham threatened early on. Arsenal grew into the game and opened the scoring when Bukayo Saka's corner was touched on by Gabriel and Leandro Trossard finished with his thigh at the back post. Referee Anthony Taylor signalled for a penalty, provoking visible frustration from Mikel Arteta as the review took an unusually long time. The delay was attributed to the pitch-side review screen not working. Arteta subsequently acknowledged that the spot-kick probably should not have been awarded because Fulham's Kevin got a touch on the ball.
