Piero Hincapie and Christian Norgaard started at centre-back, keeping a clean sheet in the absence of Gabriel, William Saliba and Cristhian Mosquera, who are injured. Teenage forward Max Dowman will be sidelined for around two months with an ankle ligament injury sustained in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Manchester United; surgery is not required. Dowman has made five senior appearances and trained with the senior squad in pre-season.
