Arne Slot describes Konaté as vital due to his quality and the limited defensive depth available. Liverpool have begun a central-defensive rebuild with signings Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet for initial fees of 26m and 55m respectively, yet Konaté remains part of Slot's plans. Konaté's contract expires at the end of the season and he has been linked with Real Madrid. Liverpool are in ongoing negotiations to try to keep him.
