Julián Álvarez scored a penalty and a direct free-kick as Atlético Madrid beat Real Madrid 5-2 at the Estadio Metropolitano. Los Blancos led 2-1 via Kylian Mbappé and Arda Guler after an early Robin Le Normand header, and Alexander Sorloth equalized 2-2 in first-half stoppage time. Álvarez converted a 51st-minute penalty and struck a free-kick 12 minutes later. Antoine Griezmann added a late clinching goal. Álvarez has five goals in his last two LaLiga games and is one of two players in Europe’s top five leagues with multiple direct free-kick goals this season. Atlético outshot Real 13 to six and won the xG battle 2.34 to 0.66.
