Manager Walid Regragui urged the team to win the title to cement Morocco's status as a major football nation and said winning trophies is the next step in the country’s history. He emphasized personal self-belief regardless of results. Senegal advanced past Sudan and Mali and beat Egypt 1-0 in the semi-final, fielding experienced players such as Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly and Idrissa Gana Gueye.
