AFCON: A 3,000-kilometer bike ride to catch the opener DW 12/22/2025
""When I was at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast (2024), the fans were singing a song in support of the national team," Skira told DW. "It said that some had come by plane, others by car, some by bicycle, and still others on foot. I picked out the word 'bicycle' and that's how I came here.""
""That's the responsibility we have," said Achraf Hakimi of Champions League titleholders Paris Saint-Germain. "It's a positive responsibility that motivates us to be ready for this tournament.""
Ismail Skira completed a 3,000-kilometer bicycle journey from Paris to Agadir over four weeks to support Morocco at AFCON. The tournament has sold more than a million tickets and will accommodate teams in five-star hotels, with matches in nine stadiums across six cities and broadcasts by over 30 European media outlets. AFCON serves as a dress rehearsal for the 2030 FIFA World Cup to be hosted across three continents with Morocco, Spain and Portugal as main hosts. The scale of the event increases pressure on the Moroccan FA and players. Achraf Hakimi described the responsibility as positive motivation to be ready.
