"In preparation for winter, Whaleback also completed the installation of its new surface lift. Set up over the weekend, the lift will service Lower Spout, the mountain's main race trail, as well as Canyon and Scrimshaw, which host the terrain park. Newly cut connector trails make accessing this terrain easier and will be especially useful for the popular Thursday Night Race League."

Whaleback Mountain reached 95% of a $210,000 fundraising goal and will operate this winter despite the Summit Chair remaining offline after a February 2025 gearbox failure. The nonprofit mountain launched an urgent campaign to offset operational challenges caused by the 1970 Heron-Poma double lift shutdown. Community events such as the Granite Backcountry Film Festival and Fall Flannel Fest drove much of the fundraising with concerts, auctions, food, and strong turnout. A new surface lift was installed to serve Lower Spout, Canyon, and Scrimshaw and newly cut connector trails improve access for racers and terrain park users. The mountain plans events and gatherings and remains conveniently visible from I-89.
