"The quirky name for the competition comes from the original identity of the resort, spanning all the way back to the early 1970s. The name originates from the competitions held in Aspen, Colorado, in which skiers would prioritize style over speed. This led to a unique form of skiing not yet seen at the time, focusing on elaborate spins, tricks, and jumps while skiers worked their way down the mountain."
"The competition is the brainchild of professional skier and Mountain Top native Ashley Battersby. Battersby grew up skiing at Grand Geneva, spending her days in the terrain park while her parents worked as ski patrol and instructed on the hill. Battersby plans to bring back the competition with a new light and variety, adding three separate events over three adrenaline-filled days."
"The fun will kick off on Friday, January 16, with registration and an athlete meeting, followed by a welcome party to get everyone in the spirit of friendly competition. Saturday will start off with a slopestyle competition, and the day will then finish off with a big air competition. Finally, Sunday will conclude the events with the slopestyle finals competition in the morning. The afternoon will bring a rail jam, and to cap off the weekend, awards will be presented before a final closing ceremony."
The Mountain Top at Grand Geneva will revive its historic "Hot Dog" identity with a Hot Dog Open from January 16–18, 2026. The event draws on a freestyle tradition that began in Aspen, emphasizing style, spins, tricks, and jumps. Professional skier and Mountain Top native Ashley Battersby is organizing the event and plans three distinct competitions across three days. The weekend schedule includes registration and a welcome party, slopestyle, big air, slopestyle finals, and a rail jam, with awards and a closing ceremony. A DJ will provide on-site music and over $5,000 in prizes will be awarded.
