A backcountry ski outing in the Pyrenees of Andorra turned dangerous when the slope fractured and collapsed beneath skier Ares Masip, carrying both her and her dog Cim downhill. Fractures in the snow propagated rapidly and the slide ran through a treed slope. Cim was initially not caught, but followed Masip into the debris and was carried by the avalanche. Both came to a stop unburied. Conditions included fresh tracks, a BPA risk rating of 1–2, repeated recent visits to the spot, and a short, low-ambition objective that contributed to overconfidence. The event highlighted a heuristic bias and the reminder that zero risk does not exist.
