"Lake Tahoe's Nate Bromley reflected on his first encounter with Corbet's Couloir as an eight-year-old on a family ski trip to Jackson Hole. He remembered inching to the edge, peering over the abyss, and deciding-wisely, at the time-that discretion was the better part of valor. Years later, now standing among the invited competitors, he laughed at how dramatically things had changed."

The Tram Dock at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort hosted the 8th Annual Kings and Queens of Corbet's, an on-mountain ski and snowboard competition drawing 24 athletes. Competitors will drop into Corbet's Couloir to contend with steep terrain, consequence, and each other for a $50,000 prize purse and the Kings and Queens crown. Opening-night activities combined registration, start-order rituals, food, drinks, socializing, and a Ski Shot, building anticipation. Start order was determined by a rotating bingo cage with numbered balls, creating theatrical suspense. Athletes discussed ideal draw positions; Nate Bromley recalled first peering into Corbet's as an eight-year-old.
