Snowbird, UT, Report: The Tram Opens on Day #2 of the Season for 3,240-Vertical-Foot Runs - SnowBrains
"Yesterday was the first ski day of my 25th full northern hemisphere ski season! Damn, I'm getting old... I've also done 15 full southern hemisphere winters, but that's a story for another time. I decided to roll up to the Gadzoom chairlift at Snowbird at 8:30 am yesterday. I was the only non-old-time local there early, waiting for the chair to open. They joked and laughed and greeted each other and told stories of winters old."
"Around noon thirty, we met up with Jake, Snowbird's comms and social media guru, and on our second lap with him, I told him I had to bail to hit a 2 pm PRP injection appointment in SLC. He said, "No, you're not, the tram is about to open..." We scrambled to the tram deck as I called my doctor's office to reschedule the appointment for next week."
Season 25 of northern-hemisphere skiing began with a visit to Snowbird's Gadzoom chairlift at 8:30 a.m. The early morning crowd consisted mainly of longtime local skiers who shared jokes and stories. Morning runs were fast, firm, and dark, and conditions improved as skiers cut up the slopes and canyon light increased. Martin joined for laps on Gadzoom and the group met Jake, Snowbird's comms and social guru, around 12:30. A planned PRP appointment was postponed to catch the tram. The first tram rides were light and joyful, producing three tram laps before fatigue ended the day at 3:30 p.m.
