"The expert snow management team at Monarch has created some of the best skiing conditions in Colorado right now. The powder off of Panorama reminded me why it is my favorite lift in the state. I got fresh tracks in six or more inches of powder, helping to pack down the runs and never hitting anything more than shrubs. I spent a lot of the day skiing Short N Sweet down to Berry's which seemed to be the grail of the day."
"Berry's, formally known as Lower No Name, was almost skiing like a chute, with deep powder and interesting hits back into the "chute." Ski patrol also opened Tango and other gladed areas off the left side of Panorama. It was almost unbelievable how filled in some areas were, with deep powder and not a single core shot all day. Runs off of Garfield and Pioneer also skied very well."
"Ski Patrol was working hard to open more runs under the liftline, and all runs on Monarch's front side are currently listed as open! The new "Ricochet" terrain park and renamed runs under Garfield have filled in nicely and should be skiing well this week. Difficult runs under Panorama are also open with hard work from ski patrol. Monarch has had an incredible start to the season, and we are highly anticipating the grand opening of the new terrain expansion."
Monarch Mountain opened for the season on Tuesday, December 2, and has received snowfall each day since opening, with over 20 inches in the past seven days. Four inches fell overnight before Saturday, while conditions felt deeper across the mountain. Five lifts and 25 runs were open early, with rope drops and frequent refills, and ski patrol safety checks expanded access to 48 runs by the end of the storm. Snow management created excellent powder conditions, notably off Panorama, with gladed areas, the new Ricochet terrain park, and filled-in runs under Garfield. Ski patrol continues opening additional runs and a terrain expansion is imminent.
