LIVE: Texas roller coaster stopped, rescue underway as riders stranded upside down
Crews rescued riders stuck on the Iron Shark roller coaster at Pleasure Pier in Galveston, Texas. Initial images showed seven people remaining on the ride as a crane and rescue crews removed riders from the train car. Video reviewed from a live camera indicated the ride stopped at 5:21 p.m. The Iron Shark roller coaster is the tallest on the pier and features a 100-foot vertical lift hill. The amusement park was closed during the rescue operation. The Galveston Fire Department’s Tower 1 engine was positioned on the pier to provide space for first responders. Pleasure Pier and Galveston authorities were contacted for additional information.
