"It's a crazy sport. Unbelievable is the right word for today and yesterday-to win two races as first podiums, and by one hundredth. I tried not to hold back, and when I saw the green light again with one hundredth, it was incredible."
"I thought today it might be my day when I crossed the line and saw the dark green. But Lolli [Pirovano] came in and beat me by one hundredth again, which shows how tight the competition is at the highest level of ski racing."
Italian ski racer Laura Pirovano achieved an extraordinary breakthrough by winning two consecutive World Cup downhill races in Val di Fassa. After claiming her first-ever podium victory on March 6 on her 125th World Cup start, she repeated the feat the following day, defeating Austria's Conny Hütter by just 0.01 seconds. Switzerland's Corinne Suter finished third, 0.05 seconds behind. Pirovano, who debuted on the World Cup circuit in 2015, had competed in 124 races without reaching a podium before this remarkable weekend. The races featured competitive performances from multiple skiers, with Breezy Johnson and Ester Ledecká setting early pace benchmarks before Hütter established a strong lead that Pirovano ultimately surpassed.
