"Monte Bondone is a family-focused resort near the world famous Dolomites with nine runs and about 20 kilometers (12 miles) of pistes which relies heavily on artificial snow to keep terrain open through inconsistent early-season conditions. According to Corriere del Trentino, the resort operates roughly 127 snow cannons. But when strong winds swept Cima Palon, the resort's highest point, clean of snow on December 5, temperatures at the summit were reportedly too warm for snowmaking."
"The solution, resort management said, was to produce snow in the valley and fly it to the mountaintop. Corriere del Trentino reported that about 40 helicopter trips were required to move enough snow to reopen the affected slope. Trento Funivie president Roberto Gaddo told the news outlet that failing to reopen the run could have cost the company between 300,000 to 400,000 euros, adding that many tour operators reserve the right to relocate clients if fewer than half of the resort's slopes are open."

Management produced snow in the valley and flew it to the mountaintop, requiring about 40 helicopter trips and avoiding estimated losses of €300,000–€400,000. Twelve organizations, including WWF Italy and Extinction Rebellion, condemned the operation. Snowmaking is widespread across Europe, with more than 60% of ski slopes using artificial snow.
