An avalanche in the Wasatch backcountry on February 18 killed one person in terrain between Snake Creek and Ant Knolls east of the Cottonwood Canyons. Two people were snowmobiling; a father was buried and the juvenile son, using an avalanche beacon, located and dug him out, but the adult was deceased. The Utah Avalanche Center expressed condolences and said forecasters are visiting the accident site while working with the Wasatch County Sheriff's Office to gather details. The victim's identity was not released. Heavy recent storms dropped more than 3 feet of snow, prompting a Level 4 avalanche warning.
